City firefighters are making a habit of responding to a residence on East Sixth Street.

On Thursday, and for the third time this month, Jamestown Fire Department were summoned to 621 E. Sixth St., near the corner of Sixth and Grant streets, for a reported structure fire. Crews arrived at the scene at 6:18 p.m. to witness flames visibily shooting out from the structure’s third-floor attic — the same location two previous fires were confined to earlier this month.

Because of intense flames firefighters doused a neighboring residence, which sustained damage to its siding. Matthew Coon, first platoon battalion chief for the Jamestown Fire Department, said fire was visible when they arrived and began defensive efforts. An additional 12 off-duty firefighters were called to assist. Coon said it was too early to determine a cause of the fire.

“At this point the fire investigators have gone in there and they are starting to take a look,” Coon said Thursday evening.

This is the third report of a fire at this address in the past three weeks. The first report of a small kitchen fire was made back on March 2. That fire was under control quickly, though the structure sustained significant damage. Less than 24 hours later firefighters were called back to the scene for a reported structure fire. Fire officials said the second fire was reportedly under control in about 45 minutes.

Both previous incidents were still under investigation.
