New Site Offers Snapshot Of Available County Properties

A new website is giving site selectors a new place to view available properties in Chautauqua County for economic development, while at the same time providing them with a snapshot of what the area has to offer.

It’s known as Statebook, and it’s the first nationwide online marketplace for economic development and corporate site selection.

Last year, Empire State Development provided funding to allow the 62 counties in the state to showcase their available buildings, lots and properties. The County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency’s site lists over 30 available properties for sale.

A portion of the Statebook website automatically populates data from 50 federal databases and 60,000 data points. Prospective businesses are able to get a glimpse into area demographics, industries and employment, among other areas.

Along with prepopulated data, each economic development department has the ability to provide more information to site selectors. For the county IDA, that portion of the website has been developed by Leah Stow, Planning and Economic Development Department member. Stow said Statebook was created in response to the opaque and cumbersome research process that takes place during site selection. Stow highlighted the new online marketplace with legislators on the Planning and Economic Development Committee during a recent meeting.

“Research that would have previously taken months or weeks can now be done in a matter of seconds,” Stow said.

The county’s website can be accessed by visiting statebook.com and searching County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency. The site’s main page provides an overview of the county IDA, top and targeted industries and incentives they offer.

Selectors can click on various tabs when visiting the site, which provides brief insight into Chautauqua County and the available attractions, workforce, housing, education and transportation, among others. The county’s website recently took third place in a state competition that looked at the best site layout.
