Jamestown Police Department Warns Public Of Counterfeit Bills

Several cases of counterfeit money are reportedly cropping up in the Jamestown area.

According to the Jamestown Police Department, phony $20 and $100 bills have been reported, including a phony $100 bill recently taken in by a Jamestown business that had Chinese markings on its face and backside.

Other bills have the words “For Motion Picture Use Only” on the front. These bills are known as “prop” money used only for movies and television.

Police are urging businesses to use a dri-mark counterfeit bill pen on all bills to ensure they are legitimate.

Using these bills knowingly can result in a class C felony —  first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Any person who may come across one of these fake bills is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency. For more information on how to detect counterfeit money, visit the U.S. Secret Service website at www.secretservice.gov.

Anyone who may know who is possessing and/or processing these bills can contact the JPD anonymously at 483-TIPS (8477) or leave a tip at Tips 411 App. All calls will be kept confidential.
