State Releases School Aid Runs For 2017-18

Every school district in Chautauqua County is poised to receive an increase in state aid for the upcoming school year, according to recently released state school aid runs for 2017-18.

According to the report, the Governor is recommending a total of $25.61 billion for school aid, which is an increase of $961 million from year-to-year or 3.9 percent. Additional funding is also suggested for Foundation Aid, including an increase in Community Schools funding.

For 2017-18 Foundation Aid, districts across the state are recommended to receive and increase of $427.82 million or an increase of 2.60 percent. Community Schools funding will increase $50 million as a “set-aside” within foundation aid for districts which have been identified as failing or persistently failing, as well as for districts with extraordinary growth in English Language Learners.

Likewise, funding for Universal Pre-kindergarten Aid is expected to equal $415.56 million, which includes the proposal to merge all pre-k programs into a single program which would begin in the 2017-18 school year.

As for local school districts, the increases in foundation aid are as follows: Southwestern Central School District, $139,218 or 1.9 percent; Frewsburg Central School District, $137,241 or 2 percent; Cassadaga Valley Central School District, $149,526 or 1.3 percent; Chautauqua Lake Central School District, $41,091 or 1 percent; Pine Valley Central School District, $100,561 or 1.4 percent;

Clymer Central School District, $56,512 or 1.6 percent; Dunkirk Central School District, $354,334 or 1.8 percent; Bemus Point Central School District, $34,761 or 1.1 percent; Falconer Central School District, $198,841 or 2.3 percent; Silver Creek Central School District, $194,278 or 2 percent; Forestville Central School District, $66, 213 or 1.5 percent; Panama Central School District, $85,293 or 1.4 percent; and Jamestown Public Schools District, $848,893 or 1.8 percent.

Other school districts’ foundation aid increases are as follows: Fredonia Central School District, $155,260 or 1.8 percent; Brocton Central School District, $107,834 or 1.5 percent; Ripley Central School District $41,583 or 1 percent; Sherman Central School District, $72,659 or 1.5 percent; and Westfield Academy and Central School, $101,066 or 1.5 percent.

Notably, Jamestown Public Schools will also continue to receive their Community Schools set-aside funds as part of the foundation aid.
