Area Closings Accumulate Due To Weather
Winter made a dramatic entrance Thursday, causing several local schools and organizations to close their doors due to the weather.
The village of Gowanda has a temporary travel advisory in effect.
The Gowanda Police Department have issued the travel advisory due to the continued snowfall rate.
“It is difficult for the plows to keep up with the major roadways leading into and out of the village,” a Facebook post reads. “There (have) been numerous vehicles stuck on the hills coming into Gowanda.”
The department asks that motorists use caution while driving due to the number of accidents and vehicles outside the village of Gowanda, and assures the public that the village highway department has both trucks out working.
Cassadaga Valley Central School District, Fredonia Central School District, Sherman Central School District and Chautauqua Lake Central School District have canceled all after school and evening activities for Thursday. Gowanda Central School District and Westfield Central School and Academy have also canceled all after school activities.
The Falconer Central School District high school chorus and band concert scheduled for Thursday has been canceled and re-schedules for Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 8:15 p.m. after the middle school concert. The wrestling match at Cassadaga Valley v.s. Maple Grove has also been canceled. It is rescheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 13 along with the Randolph match.
The Chautauqua County 4-H Sheep project meeting has been canceled for Thursday, as well as committee meetings. The remote office hours for Tom Reed’s Congressional Office in Dunkirk for Friday have also been canceled due to the snow storm.
The Chautauqua Chamber of Commerce has also canceled its annual meeting scheduled for Friday.
Apokolips Comics in Jamestown notified the public that they closed at 6 p.m. Thursday and will reopen at 11 a.m. on Friday.
