Blaze Destroys Home In Dewittville

DEWITTVILLE A massive fire required the assistance of multiple fire departments at 6855 Beech Hill Road in Dewittville on Saturday night around 7:15 p.m.

Sources on the scene called it a total loss.

As of 10:30 p.m., fire crews were still battling the blaze.

Online records show the 1,490 square-foot home is a single family unit.

Joe Gerace, Chautauqua County sheriff, said he received notification of the fire around 7 p.m. and flames could be seen shooting out of the building when fire departments arrived.

He also said there were no reported fatalities from the fire and an investigation is ongoing as to the cause.

Fire departments at the scene included Chautauqua, Mayville, Dewittville, Hartfield, Portland, Brocton and Maple Springs fire departments, the sheriff’s office and county emergency services.
