JPS Board Terminates Security Officer

Kenneth V. Nellis III

The Jamestown Public Schools Board approved the termination of a safety and security officer who was previously suspended from his duties with the Jamestown Police Department in March.

Kenneth V. Nellis III, 40, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a Class D felony. The charge was the result of a complaint against Nellis on March 12.

The school district was unable to comment on the situation as it was a personnel matter.

He was taken into custody at a Schuyler Street residence in March.

Jamestown Police Chief Harry Snellings confirmed that Nellis had been suspended as a result of the charge.

“We received a (domestic violence) complaint, and as a result we made the arrest,” Snellings told The Post-Journal at the time.

Nellis — a four-year member of the city police department — was arraigned in Jamestown City Court, where bail was set at $2,000.

A city court clerk said an order of protection was issued during Nellis’ court appearance in addition to the case being moved from city court to another jurisdiction.

Nellis’ termination from JPS was included in a list of non-instructional personnel placements that detail changes in particular individual’s employment.

Typically, the personnel agenda lists JPS employee’s change of status, leave of absence, resignation, retirement and appointment.

The termination will take retroactive effect beginning on March 13.
