Cirque Mechanics Tour To Come March 1

Cirque Mechanics brings its North American tour into Jamestown on March 1 at 7 p.m.

The performing troupe returns to Reg Lenna Center for The Arts with a new production – “42FT – A Menagerie of Mechanical Marvels”.

“42FT” will be presented as a one-ring circus performance featuring aerialists, acrobats, a strongman and a mechanical metal horse. Modern technology mixes with classic live performing acts in this show which is both progressive and timeless. Classic circus staples such as a trapeze, highwire, colorful tent, jugglers and a ringmaster are also part of the evening’s entertainment.

The performance’s title reflects the measurement of the diameter of a traditional circus ring going back more than 250 years.

This innovation was made by the creator of modern circuses, Philip Astley. Forty-two feet was found to be the ideal amount of space for horses, acrobats, clowns and flyers to perform within.

“Jamestown has become a favored destination of this troupe and others like them who mash up tradition and innovation,” said Len Barry, Reg Lenna Center for the Arts marketing director.

Cirque Mechanics — last seen in 2016 in their show “Pedal Punk” — join Chinese acrobats Cirque Ziva as returning performers to The Reg Lenna Center for the Arts stage in the last five years. Similar performances at The Reg have included Cirk La Putyka’s “Slapstick Sonata” in 2014 and Circo Comedia’s self titled show in 2018. All seats are assigned and patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of the performance.

Additionally, “The Mechanical Circus”, a circus-inspired art show featuring local and regional artists, is showing at the 3rd on 3rd Gallery at 108 E. Third St. The show is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Tuesday through Saturday through March 2. A free public reception will be open to the public Friday, March 1, at 5 p.m. before Cirque Mechanics take the stage.

Tickets for “42FT – A Menagerie of Mechanical Marvels” start at $5 for children age 18 and under, and $10 for adults. The performance is 80 minutes long with a 20-minute intermission.
