Falconer Man Receives Prison Sentence

MAYVILLE — A Falconer man will serve between 3¢ and seven years in state prison after being convicted in Chautauqua County Court on weapons possession charges.

In March, James B. Caloren, 36, was charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon after Ellicott Police received receiving information that he had allegedly posted a message on Facebook threatening violence. Det. Kevin Pierce of the Ellicott Police Department told The Post-Journal the threat was credible enough to begin an investigation. During that time, officers learned that a local storage unit rented by Caloren may have contained weapons. A warrant was obtained, and during a search of the unit, police found an AK-47 assault rifle, 16- and 12-gauge shotguns, a rifle, other weapons and a “large amount of ammunition,” Ellicott police said. Due to past convictions — none of which reportedly involved weapons — Caloren was barred from owning firearms.

Caloren was convicted and sentenced Aug. 27 by Judge David W. Foley. The sentence was announced Friday by Patrick Swanson, county district attorney.

A Bemus Point man, meanwhile, will serve prison time for stealing a vehicle from a Bemus Point home in March. Shawn Paprocki, 32, of Bemus Point was sentenced Aug. 13 by John LaMancuso, acting Chautauqua County Court Judge, to sentences of two to six years in prison, 1• to four years and 1• to four years in prison after being convicted of third-degree burglary, third-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. The sentence was announced Friday by Patrick Swanson, county district attorney.

Paprocki stole a motor vehicle from a Weaver Road home. That vehicle was later recovered abandoned in Cattaraugus County. Shortly after finding the first vehicle, deputies were alerted by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office that a second motor vehicle was stolen from Randolph and seen driving toward Chautauqua County. Deputies later found the vehicle at a residence in Ellery where Paprocki was reportedly found in the presence of people he has orders of protections to stay away from.
