A fire at a vacant residence in Jamestown late Tuesday is being treated as suspicious.

According to WJTN radio, citing Jamestown fire battalion chief Matthew Coon, firefighters were called to 208 W. Eighth St. around 11 p.m. and found flames and heavy smoke coming from the upper floors of the two-story property. Utility services to the residence were disconnected.

Jamestown fighters quickly doused the blaze and remained on scene for several hours. Off-duty crews were called to assist at the scene, as did officers with the Jamestown Police Department.

According to WJTN, Coon said the fire has been deemed suspicious; the cause of the blaze was not released by the fire department.
