Family Fun Day Donations Used To Buy Supplies

The third Family Fun Day was held on Aug. 17 at the Gateway Center in Jamestown. All donations received will be used to provide school supplies and backpacks to school-aged children in our community and neighboring communities as well.

Family Fun Day was put on through the collaboration with Community Helping Hands. The theme for National Health Center Week 2018 is “Celebrating America’s Health Centers: Home of America’s Healthcare Heroes.” Each year, The Chautauqua Center, hosts a back-to-school Family Fun day event during NHCW in which the group provide backpacks, as well as school supplies to children in need.

The current school supply demand for many families can be a financial burden for families, for this reason TCC decided to start this as an annual event. Family Fun Day is to focus on the whole community and not just our patients.

The Chautauqua Center has been hosting this event for three years since opening. The group offered fun activities for youth and parents alike as an end of the summer celebration. This Family Fun Day included local vendors, giveaways, music, free hotdogs and popcorn.

Last year TCC purchased 600 backpacks with another 100 donated by various organizations, we gave away 700 backpacks which still wasn’t enough for hundreds of youth who were in attendance. We anticipate this year’s attendance to be even greater.

The Chautauqua Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center, works with community members and directly with local school districts to ensure that children have adequate access to health care and ancillary services. In addition, the center works directly with many collaborative partners to address social determinants of health such as housing issues, insurance enrollment, food access, etc. Our mission is to deliver comprehensive, high quality patient-centered health and support services in the Chautauqua region.
