MAYVILLE — When the early April temperatures struggle to regularly climb out of the 30s a little seasonal spice is necessary.

That’s what the Rotary Club of Jamestown’s yearly spring fundraising event, the Fire and Ice Ball, will aim to achieve on Saturday, April 14, at Mayville’s Chautauqua Suites starting at 6 p.m.

This year’s Fire and Ice Ball will be the fifth annual event to serve as a fundraiser for the club’s involvement with various local and international projects. Featured will be live music by the Porcelain Busdrivers, a silent basket auction — including items donated by Southern Tier Brewing Company and JB Liquor, as well as a natural gas grill donated by National Grid — and two, high-end grand prizes. To top it off, new this year, a photo booth will be available for party-goers to capture their memories of the evening.

The name “Fire and Ice” refers to the two grand prize items, known as the “Fire” and “Ice” prizes. This year’s “Fire” prize will come in the form of a one-week stay at the Grand Mayan Resort in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The suite includes over 1,200 square feet with two bedrooms and occupancy of six adults and two children. The “Ice” prize is a Ice Blue Diamond jewelry set comprised of a pendant, bracelet, earrings and ring — donated by Gaylene’s and valued at $1,100.

Tickets for the grand prizes are available at $10 each, and the prize winners will be determined by a drawing. Tickets can be purchased from any Jamestown Noon Rotarian or by calling Fire and Ice chairwoman Kathy Benson at 489-7308. The winning tickets will be drawn during the event, but the ticketholders do not need to be present to win.

Tickets to attend the Fire and Ice Ball are $70 each and can also be purchased from any Rotary Club of Jamestown member, or by contacting Benson at 489-7308. Attendees of the Fire and Ice Ball are asked to dress formally, but the event is black tie optional. Chautauqua Suites are located at 215 W. Lake Road in Mayville.

All proceeds from the Fire and Ice Ball will support the Rotary’s numerous local and international projects. At the local level, the club has recently made donations to projects such as the National Comedy Center, the Veteran’s Memorial Park, the Riverwalk Park, Jamestown Community College, Green UP Jamestown and Chautauqua Lake Weed Clean Up. It also assists with projects such as literacy in local schools and summer programs, the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, highway clean up and lake clean up.

Internationally, the club has provided playground enhancements and blackboards for a Cambodian school where one Rotary member volunteers in the winter months, microloans for women in Nepal to start new businesses, water wells and latrines in Haiti, and shelter boxes to help international disaster survivors.
