The Jamestown Vietnam Veterans of America will be hosting a fundraiser starting at 2 p.m. Saturday for Hunter’s Heart.

Hunter Vergith was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, which is a congenital heart condition consisting of five heart abnormalities, when his mother, Lauren Russell of Jamestown, was 30 weeks pregnant.

Chrissy Servis, Vietnam Veterans of America Support The Troops Committee chairwoman, said in February 2012, when Hunter was 2 months old, he underwent his first open heart surgery. He was born without his main pulmonary artery and had to have an artificial one installed.

Just one month after his first birthday, Hunter underwent his second open heart surgery to replace the artificial artery because he had outgrown the first one, Servis said. It is expect that Hunter will have more surgeries throughout his lifetime as he continues to grow, which will hopefully end when he is fully grown.

Servis said, recently, Hunter’s cardiologist said he has once again outgrown the artificial artery. On Jan. 18, he underwent a heart catherization in Rochester to place a stent in his heart to buy him more time till his next surgery.

The fundraiser will be held at the Jamestown Vietnam Veterans club room, located at 41 Bigelow Ave. A St. Paddy’s Day dinner will be served for $8 a plate. The meal will include corned beef and cabbage or ham and potatoes. There will also be a meat raffle, a wheelbarrow of booze raffle and a 50/50 drawing. Musical performances include Scroggins from 3-6 p.m. and Dr. Doug from 7:30-11:30 p.m.
