July Selection To Begin Next Week For Ruiz Case
DUNKIRK — Jury selection in the Rebecca Ruiz murder trial is set to begin March 6 in Chautauqua County Court in Mayville.
The 29-year-old Dunkirk woman has sat in County Jail since July 7. She’s charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of her boyfriend, 21-year-old Julian Duman. The incident occurred at the corner of Lake Shore Drive East and South Zebra Street in Dunkirk on the night of July 6.
Ruiz pleaded not guilty during her July 7 arraignment. A grand jury indicted her in early August of second-degree murder. In addition, the grand jury indicted her on second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with evidence.
Ruiz has been held on $1 million cash or $2 million property bond. Ruiz is represented by attorney Anthony Pendergrass.
Chautauqua County Court Judge David Foley is presiding over the case.
