DUNKIRK — Dunkirk City Police assisted US Marshals in catching a fugitive from justice around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Chief David Ortolano.

“He started out in Erie (Pennsylvania) and (the marshals) followed him from the area to here (Tuesday) morning,” Ortolano said. “(They) called us for some assistance to go in because they tracked him to here.”

Ortolano said that the man, whose name has yet to be released, was to be processed in Dunkirk and turned back over to the marshals.

“Our detectives will do the fugitive-from-justice paperwork and we’ll turn him back over,” Ortolano said.

The alleged fugitive was reportedly hiding out at 221 Mullet St. between Second and Third streets.

Marshals were observed entering the house and approximately 20 minutes later emerged with the fugitive in handcuffs.

Police are expected to release further details later.
