Dunkirk Boil Water Advisory Lifted

A large water line leak was discovered around 11 a.m. Thursday in Dunkirk.

The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services and the city of Dunkirk announced Saturday that the boil water and water conservation advisories in effect since Thursday for customers served by the city of Dunkirk water supply is now lifted.

The affected area included the City of Dunkirk and water districts in the towns of Dunkirk and Sheridan. Water samples collected on March 29 and 30 from the affected area show that the water is safe to drink and can now be used for all purposes. Construction at the city of Dunkirk’s water plant caused a large leak on March 28 that could have allowed contaminants to enter the system.

The leak was repaired the same day but as a precaution, the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services placed the City on a boil water advisory.

The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services and the City of Dunkirk thank all affected water customers for their cooperation and patience while the boil water advisory was in effect, and commend all those involved in the water emergency for working together to manage the crisis and repair the leak in such a timely manner.
