POLAND — Local veterans from the town of Poland received a nice surprise for Valentine’s Day. Volunteers met at the Kennedy Free Library and made personal cards for the veterans, which were then mailed out for the holiday.

The Kennedy Free Library supplied the materials, and volunteers wrote short notes of thanks to the veterans. It was a labor of love for all involved in the event. Library Director Maggie Ruth was pleased with the response to her call for volunteers.

Some of those who received a card have already expressed their gratitude for being remembered in such a nice way. Those who volunteered enjoyed being able to remember the veterans in such a simple, yet meaningful manner.

Ruth said that she hopes to make this event a tradition for the community.
