Freezing Rain, Snow Expected Thursday

Freezing rain turning into snow could make travel conditions tricky Thursday, the National Weather Service in Buffalo said.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday for the western portion of Chautauqua County. An initial mix of freezing rain and sleet is expected to turn into snow, with anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of accumulation possible, the weather service said.

“Light icing followed by light-to-moderate snowfall accumulations will result in slippery travel conditions,” the weather service said in its alert. “Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.”

Temperatures Thursday are expected to reach about 40 degrees and remain slightly above freezing for much of the day.
