CELORON — For the third consecutive weekend, community members are rallying in support of their own.

A benefit for 4-year-old Kendall Eddy, a Jamestown girl who was born with a diaphragmatic hernia, will be held Sunday at the Celoron Legion from 1-5 p.m.

As a result of Kendall’s birth defect, her liver was allowed to pass through her diaphragm into her chest and thereby preventing her right lung from growing. She is scheduled for surgery to close the hole in her diaphragm to prevent other organs from passing through.

Bob Bruce, coordinator of Sunday’s benefit, said the family has been under severe financial strain as a result of the diagnosis and resultant tests.

“Kendall’s parents have had to take her back and forth to New York City several times for consultations, surgeries and follow-ups, and this benefit is to help alleviate some of the financial burden the family has come up with as a result of all that,” Bruce said.

Sunday’s benefit will include a spaghetti dinner, a Chinese auction, 50/50 drawings and basket raffles. Bruce said several local businesses have donated gift certificates to be auctioned off, as well. Live music will be provided by Splitfoot.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under.

Kendall’s benefit is one of several to be held in recent weeks. On Jan. 7, the Lakewood Legion hosted a benefit for Gary Moore, who has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Last weekend, the Celoron Legion was also host to a benefit for the Rink family of Ashville, in which a father and son are both battling cancer concurrently.

Two-year-old Judson Rink is undergoing treatment for T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma, which has recently been categorized as the same disease as acute lymphoblastic leukemia. His father, Patrick, is also currently receiving treatment for melanoma.

The Celoron Legion is located at 26 Jackson Ave. in Jamestown. For more information find “Benefit for Kendall Eddy” on Facebook.
