Murello Named Executive Director Of WNY Red Cross Chapter

Alexandra Murello

Scott Aminov, chief operating officer for the American Red Cross, Western and Central New York Region, is proud to announce the appointment of Alexandra Murello as the executive director of the Western New York chapter. Murello started her new position on Nov. 6.

“I am excited to be part of an organization that does so much for the Western New York community,” Murello said. “I look forward to working with the staff and incredible volunteers, providing leadership and helping raise the needed financial resources as the Red Cross continues to provide vital services to the people of Western New York.”

A 2005 graduate of Canisius College, Murello spent the last four years as Western New York Area Director for the American Diabetes Association. Previously, she served as director of development at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Northtowns, and senior development coordinator at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

“Alexandra’s leadership and experience will help the American Red Cross continue our mission of helping our neighbors in need,” Aminov said. “I look forward to working with Alexandra, her staff and volunteers to support the Western New York community.”

As Executive Director of the Western New York Chapter, Murello will oversee Red Cross services in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming counties.

In the 12-month period between July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017, those services included: providing direct assistance to 587 families following 353 fires and other disasters; making 687 households safer through the installation of 1,640 free smoke alarms as part of the Home Fire Campaign; teaching 24,261 people life-saving Health & Safety skills such as CPR and First Aid; connecting 825 military families via emergency communication services; and helping collect 36,193 lifesaving blood donations.

The Red Cross depends on the generous support of the American public to fulfill its crucial mission. Help people affected by disasters like home fires and countless other crises by making a donation to support Red Cross Disaster Relief. These gifts enable the Red Cross to prepare, respond and help people recover from disasters.
