City Crews Battle Fairview Avenue Structure Fire
City firefighters battled a structure fire Saturday afternoon. The fire was reported after 2 p.m. at 154 Fairview Ave., just off West Third Street.
Heavy smoke was seen pouring from the property through first- and second-story windows.
Battalion Chief Sam Salemme said the fire likely started in the basement. He said crews were able to stop the blaze from spreading.
“They did a great job knocking it down very quickly,” Salemme told The Post-Journal.
Salemme said it was too soon to determine a possible cause of the fire. A fire investigator was summoned to respond.
The local chapter of the American Red Cross was called to assist five occupants who reside at the residence.
