Jamestown Man Jailed After Pursuit With Police

A Jamestown man was jailed following a high-speed chase Saturday that ended after the department’s K-9 was deployed.

The 18-year-old, who was not named in a statement by the Jamestown Police Department, was spotted by officers shortly after midnight failing to keep right and speeding in a vehicle on Water Street in the city. The driver failed to stop and led police on a high-speed chase, reportedly committing several traffic violations.

The driver fled through the west side of the city and into the village of Celoron, where officers from the Lakewood-Busti Police Department assisted in the chase. Lakewood-Busti police reportedly used “stop sticks” to puncture tires in the fleeing vehicle on Jackson Avenue in Celoron.

The man fled the vehicle and reportedly ran behind several residences. K-9 Mitchell from JPD was used to track down the man, who was hiding on West Livingston Avenue in the village. The Jamestown man surrendered to the K-9 unit and was taken into custody without incident.

The 18-year-old was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, first-degree reckless endangerment, failure to comply, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, driving while intoxicated and DWI per se with a blood-alcohol content greater than .08 percent. The man was also charged with several traffic violations.

The city resident was transported to Jamestown City Jail on Saturday morning to await arraignment.
