BPU Discusses Preliminary Budgets
The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities discussed the preliminary budgets for three of their five utility divisions Monday.
Kelly Hawkins, BPU finance and customer accounts manager, said staff has recommended a rate increase for solid waste customers who live outside of the city of Jamestown. She said currently all BPU solid waste customers are charged $21 for disposal, with a $10.50 recycling credit if a household recycled at least once during the billing period.
Hawkins said BPU officials are proposing to charge non-city residents $27.50, with a $10.50 recycling credit if a household recycled at least once during the billing period. She said the proposal would raise an additional $40,000 in revenues.
BPU officials are also proposing to increase the commercial rate, too. Hawkins said they want to increase the rate from $12 to $13. The increase would raise an additional $10,000 in revenues. She said there is no proposed rate increase for city residential customers in the 2018 preliminary budget.
For the wastewater division, Hawkins said there is no proposed rate increase for next year. Also, she said there is no proposed rate increase for the district heat division. However, she said BPU staff is proposing to increase the fuel adjustment charge for the district heat division.
Hawkins said the BPU board is scheduled to vote on the solid waste, wastewater and district heating budgets next month.
