Cassadaga Man Rescued After Canoe Capsizes

CASSADAGA — A Cassadaga man was rescued after his canoe capsized Wednesday.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 5:50 p.m to the report of an overdue boater on Cassadaga Lake. Sheriff’s say 66-year-old Raymond E. Jordan Jr. took his canoe out on Cassadaga Lake and had not been heard from for over two hours.

Crews from the Cassadaga Fire Department and Chautauqua County Emergency Services were dispatched to the scene to search for Jordan Jr. Deploying kayaks, emergency crews located Jordan Jr. on Cassadaga Creek. Jordan Jr. was checked out at the scene and sustained no injuries.

Sheriff’s say Jordan Jr. had capsized his canoe when he encountered a beaver dam.
