RANDOLPH — Eighty graduating members of Randolph Central School’s Class of 2017 were present for commencement exercises at the school on Friday.

Salutatorian Emily L. Matson spoke fondly to her classmates and encouraged them to challenge themselves as they go out into the world.

“My challenge to myself and fellow classmates is to go out and make a name for themselves. Go out and share your accomplishments with the world, and don’t let anyone take credit for your hard work,” she said. “I was taught from a young age that you can’t just work hard, you have to work smart. My goal in my future is to go out and work smart, so that I can live whatever lifestyle I choose and wake up everyday happy.”

Valedictorian Annalise A. Boyer gave her classmates wise advice for the future.

“We all have the ability to take hold of our future and make it something special. So why not make it special, and make it something to remember,” she said. “Why just be another number added to the list of Randolph graduates? Be creative and challenge yourself to be more than you ever thought you could be. Make a lasting impact on this school and be remembered. It may take 20 to 30 years, but isn’t it worth it?”
