City street improvements will continue along Euclid Avenue and Bassett Street this week.

On Tuesday, Jeff Lehman, city public works director, and Vince DeJoy, city development director, said the street work is being done as part of the city’s target infrastructure improvements program that is funded through federal Community Development Block Grant money.

“It is a face lift of the street,” Lehman said “We’re giving some homes a better (driveway) apron, which gives the house more value.”

Lehman said other work will include improving sidewalks, handicap ramps, street brick and concrete work.

“We picked streets that needed some minor brick work and (streets that needed) a lot of concrete work,” Lehman said.

The street improvement work should last for about 10 days, Lehman said. He said the infrastructure improvements started last week and will be concluded with concrete work this week. The costs for the street improvements is $35,000 for each street. R-Patti Excavating and Concrete is performing the work.

“These kinds of projects have a direct impact on homeowners who are trying to bring value to their property,” DeJoy said. “It’s not an expensive project, and the neighbors love it. It has a direct impact.”
