Jamestown Marching Band Reflects On Chicago Trip

The Jamestown High School Marching Band recently visited Chicago to perform in the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.

In a whirlwind weekend, the Jamestown High School Marching Band took in the sights and performed in Chicago in just a few days.

In their first excursion to the city, the marching band performed in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, took a Navy Pier cruise, enjoyed Chicago-style pizza, saw a Blue Man Group performance and a variety of other activities. Band Director Meghan Murray said the trip was a delight.

“The kids did a really good job,” she said. “It was their best performance yet.”

Murray said the coverage the band received by the news channel and the parade was great, resulting in a video that can be accessed on the band’s website at www.jhsmarchingband.com.

“It was really cold that day, but you would’ve never known (by the performance),” she said. “We were really well-received by the crowd and the people running the parade.”

Overall, the weekend was a blur with a variety of activities each night, Murray said. The students were very well behaved, she added.

“We saw a lot in three days,” Murray said. “The kids had a great time, too.”

Some of the highlights included a visit to a dinner theater after the parade, a trip to the aquarium and a visit to the Skydeck, an attraction located at the Willis Tower, formerly known as the Sears Tower, which allows participants to view up to four states and the Chicago Skyline from above.

“We are very grateful (the community) supported us,” Murray said.
