14-Year-Old Steals Mother’s Car, Causes Accident

A 14-year-old Jamestown female was charged Thursday after reportedly stealing her mother’s car and colliding into another vehicle.

Shortly before 10 a.m., the Jamestown Police Department received a call that a 14-year-old juvenile, who was reported missing, had just taken her mother’s 2006 Hyundai Sante Fe.

It is alleged the teen driver ran a red light at the intersection of Foote Avenue and Harrison Street, and collided with a 2008 Buick sedan.

The teen reportedly fled the scene in the vehicle, but was located minutes later at the intersection of Prendergast Avenue and East Third Street.

The teen was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and turned over to her mother. The teen will be petitioned to Family Court at a later date.

The driver of the Buick, a 65-year-old Jamestown woman, was treated and released at the scene.
