Brocton Board Hears Options For Main Street Corridor

10-14 E. Main St., Brocton.

BROCTON — With Brocton’s Main Street in the grips of winter weather, a representative from an architectural firm returned to shed some new light on options for a disintegrating building in the village.

Alma Brown of Clinton Brown Company Architecture PC was on hand recently for the Village of Brocton Board of Trustees’ monthly meeting to unveil some new alternatives with the increasingly deteriorating building, as well as for others who are not weathering so well with age.

Brown returned with documents prepared by her company that analyzed five buildings along the Main Street corridor of the village: 19 W. Main St.; 2 E. Main St. (historically known as Brocton’s Bailey Building); 41 W. Main St. (The Green Arch Restaurant); 14 E. Main St. (Cave’s Deli); and 1 W. Main St. (housing an established antique shop, as well as rental properties).

The purpose of analyzing the status of the buildings was to determine if that section of Main Street would qualify for a Determination of Eligibility for a Historic Preservation District, opening numerous other options for downtown improvement. While renovation would be made according to U.S. Department of the Interior standards, property owners could potentially be open to tax credits, and the village could qualify for additional grant opportunities should they elect to purchase any of the structures and have a not for profit for a leaseholder.

After fielding questions from the trustees, Brown reiterated the importance of getting the facade of 10 E. Main St. shored up and getting the necessary documents to move forward with an option.

Brown encouraged the board to contact her with any questions and agreed to update the board with any news in the process.

The board will reconvene on Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
