Sheriff’s Office Mourning Loss Of Deputy
Members of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office are mourning the loss of Deputy Kevin Link, who died Wednesday afternoon during an off-duty medical emergency.
Link, 50, had been a member of the Sheriff’s Office for 16 years and a School Resource Officer at Silver Creek High School for nearly three years.
According to Joe Gerace, Chautauqua County sheriff, Link was a U.S. Army veteran and former deputy with the Albany County Sheriff’s Department before transferring to Chautauqua County.
He was an active member of the Sheriff’s Office dive team and SWAT team, and also a proficient EMT.
Gerace said Link was reportedly returning to his Portland home from a run Wednesday, when he collapsed and died.
“I was absolutely shocked,” Gerace said. “Kevin was one of the last people you would think would go. He was very physically fit and the kind of person you would think would be around forever. There are a lot of sad people today.”
