Community Foundation Awards Grant To Starflight

Starflight was recently awarded a $2,000 grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation to help offset the costs of two new stretchers for its aircraft.

The money represented a Fund grant made from the Edwin J. and Katherine M. Hegstedt Memorial Fund.

“We are thrilled to be offered a grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation,” said David Thomas, executive director of Alstar EMS. “Much like Starflight, the Community Foundation betters the lives of residents living in greater Chautauqua County. We are happy to have the foundation’s support.”

The Starflight team recently began to expand its outreach to the community, not only to rally for more financial support, but to remind people that Starflight is not a money-making business, but rather a community-based, nonprofit, with all monies received staying in the system.

Starflight has been serving the communities of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Warren, Allegany and McKean counties since 1986. Since its inception, the program has made over 8,000 flights for the most critically ill and injured patients.

Donations to Starflight can be made online at starflight.org or by sending a donation to P.O. Box 382, Jamestown, NY 14701. Donations can also be made through the WCA Foundation at 207 Foote Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701.
