A Jamestown man was jailed early Tuesday after officers allegedly found him with heroin and methamphetamine.

Officers were on patrol around 2 a.m. in the area of Columbia Avenue and Myrtle Street when they reported observing a male with what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband. The object turned out to be a CO-2-powered BB gun.

The man, identified as 19-year-old Randall K. Mesler Jr., was found to be in possession of “individually packaged glassine envelopes of heroin,” the Jamestown Police Department said in a press release.

Mesler was taken into custody without incident and transported to Jamestown City Jail.

Once at the jail, police reported finding 1.6 grams of methamphetamine from the rear of the patrol vehicle that Mesler had allegedly concealed from officers.

In addition, a search of Mesler’s backpack turned up packaging materials, drug paraphernalia, a switchblade knife and digital scales.

The city man was charged with felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felony fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony tampering with physical evidence, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia. He was held at city jail pending arraignment.
