BUSTI — A man wanted on felony warrants was taken into custody after fleeing into the woods.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies and officers with the Lakewood-Busti Police Department were called Sunday around 12:30 p.m. to an address on Orr Street Extension in Busti for reports of an unwanted person. It was learned that 45-year-old Jason D. Wasson of Dayton, Ohio, who was wanted on the warrants out of the town of Portland, was inside the home.

Wasson reportedly fled into the nearby woods prior to officers arriving. The Ohio man was tracked about 2 miles before he was located and taken into custody, the Sheriff’s Office announced in a press release.

Wasson was transported to UPMC Chautauqua for treatment due to exposure from the weather. Afterwards, he was taken to Chautauqua County Jail to be arraigned on the warrants as well as a second-degree burglary charge.
