(1:25 PM) Body Found On Woodlawn Beach Identified As Missing Person

BLASDELL — A dead body discovered on Woodlawn Beach has been identified as a missing person from early December.

According to Evans Police, on Dec. 6, their office was notified that Mark Pelgrin of Derby had not been seen or heard from in several days. Preliminary investigation led police to believe the victim may have fallen approximately 80 feet into the 18 Mile Creek near his residence. A search commenced of the creek, involving Evans Police, as well as volunteer fire companies from Highland, North Evans, and Lake Erie Beach.

The weather conditions deteriorated in the early morning hours with accumulating snow which led to unsafe conditions for those searching. The search was halted and later when weather conditions improved. The victim was entered as a missing persons.

In conjunction with area law enforcement partners, fire departments and multiple other agencies, the search continued of the 18 Mile Creek and Lake Erie by air and boat for several weeks.

On Monday, Dec. 31, at about 12:30 p.m. Erie County Sheriffs Aviation unit was continuing the search by air and located a body at Woodlawn Beach. The victim was transported to the Erie County Medical Center’s Office for identification and further examination.

On Wednesday, identification was made and confirmed to be Mark Pelgrin. All indicators are consistent with the Evans Police investigation and point toward an accidental death.
