(7:30 PM) Couch Likely Source Of Fire That Destroyed Home
A couch sitting on the porch of a Jamestown residence was found to be the likely source of a fire the destroyed a home early Monday.
Lt. Tim Glenn of the Jamestown Fire Department said investigators were still looking at the exact cause of the blaze that ripped through the 202 McKinley Ave. residence. Firefighters were called around 4 a.m. and found the multi-level property nearly fully engulfed by flames.
Five people were living in two apartments within the building. However, fire officials said no one was home at the time of the blaze.
Glenn said investigators determined the fire started in a couch that was on the front porch. He said the fire then spread to the exterior of the property on the ground floor before making its way to the attic.
“We still have some things to go through,” Glenn said of determining what caused the fire in the couch. “There are some things we need to cross off our list.”
