(4:34 PM) Harmful Algal Blooms Documented In South Basin Of Lake

The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services has been documented harmful algal blooms in areas of the south basin of Chautauqua Lake, including Celoron and near the Interstate 86 bridge over the lake.

Lakewood Village Beach was closed for swimming due to the presence of blue-green algae but was re-opened Thursday following the dissipation of blue-green algae and satisfactory results from toxin sampling at the beach.

Bear Lake has had reports of near-shore blue-green algae have been received from the public but have not been confirmed by officials.

No blooms have been reported on Findley Lake.

Harmful algal bloom conditions can change rapidly. Those using lakes where an active bloom is present should use caution and not ingest the water. Closely watch children and pets. If exposed to algae, wash it off immediately.
