3:30 PM: IDA Names Board Room After Longtime Administrator
Being honored for a lifetime of work is an honor that was bestowed upon Lawrence R. Taylor Tuesday.
Taylor is retiring from the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency after working for the development organization for 33 years. As a retirement gift, the IDA board named their conference room in the Buffamante Whipple Buttafaro Center, located at 201 E. Third St., after Taylor.
Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello said Taylor has been with the IDA since its inception. Taylor has worked for all county executives except the first, retired state Supreme Court Justice Joseph Gerace Sr.
Taylor said he started working with the IDA when David Dawson, Dawson Metal Co. president and chief executive officer, was the director of the development agency. He said, at the time, the IDA was located in room 600 in the Hotel Jamestown. Taylor then worked for the IDA in their former location at the old Crescent Tool Co. Building on the corner of Foote Avenue and Harrison Street. The IDA is now located in the BWB center in downtown Jamestown.
When asked what project was Taylor’s favorite or one that was more memorable than the others, he couldn’t pick just one.
“Boy, there have just been so many (great projects),” he said.
