Women’s March Is Jan. 19 In Fredonia
FREDONIA — The Women’s March of Chautauqua County is among the third annual Women’s Marches to be held nationwide in 2019. The local march will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Barker Commons Gazebo, Fredonia.
In the wake of the 2018 midterms that propelled an unprecedented wave of women to Congress, the Chautauqua Cattaraugus Women’s Action Group, along with the Fredonia Religious Society of Friends and the Unitarian Universalist Society of Northern Chautauqua, the Women’s March of Chautauqua County will be held in coordination with sister marches in cities and communities across the globe.
“On January 19, people from around the country will unite in Washington, D.C., to make their voices heard,” said Janet Wagner, a spokesperson for The Women’s March of Chautauqua County. “We’ve been organizing locally to advocate for the policies that matter to us, and impact women’s lives, and we’re flooding the streets in solidarity with our sisters in DC to remind the country that Chautauqua County resists.”
The march comes two years after the 2017 Women’s March that was the largest single-day protest in U.S. history.
“The 2017 Women’s March galvanized this country and birthed a new wave of the women’s rights movement,” Wagner said. “That wave is taking to the streets, here in Chautauqua County and nationwide.”
