Area students will have their artwork displayed and auctioned off Wednesday in support of kids their own age.

WCA Foundation will host the first Kids HeART Auction for Mental Health in support of Hannah’s Fund.

“There was a great interest in schools from our community,” said Megan Barone, director of development. “We are just as excited as the kids submitting their artwork. The pieces are original, colorful, uplifting and will look great in someone’s home or office.”

The artwork will all be on display from Friday through Wednesday.

“We encourage people to go to UPMC Chautauqua’s Auditorium to bid on a piece in the silent auction or attend on Wednesday to bid,” Barone said. “Dakota Peterson is our auctioneer that evening, and we are choosing about 25 pieces for the live auction.”

Five schools have submitted their artwork: Sinclairville, Ripley, Westfield, Falconer and Southwestern. Ripley’s art teacher, Alberta Parker, was so proud of all her students hard work and enthusiasm, that she has arranged it for the students and family members to take a bus to UPMC Chautauqua for the event.

All proceeds support Hannah’s Fun’d at WCA Foundation, which will support the Mental Health Unit at UPMC Chautauqua with a comfort room — used to calm the senses and allow the child to experience visual, auditory, olfactory and tactile stimuli that will help that child.

Not only does it help the child develop the skills needed to calm themselves while there, but also for when they return to the community to prevent aggressive or uncontrolled behavior, Barone said.

The Kids HeART Auction is Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
