United Way Kicks Off Campaign

Officials of the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County showed off their multitasking skills during a special event Thursday.

United Way officials kicked off their annual fundraising campaign and hosted an open house to showcase their new location at 208 Pine St. Prior to moving, United Way officials used the Tew Mansion on the corner of Fifth and Main streets as their headquarters.

Amy Rohler, United Way executive director, thanked several local businesses who donated their time and skills toward helping the organization move to their new location. The businesses who assisted included Lewis & Lewis Law Firm, who swapped locations with the United Way; EE Austin & Son, general contractors; Hope’s Windows; D&S Glass; Ahlstrom-Schaeffer Electric Corporation; and Allied Alarm.

“We wanted to do it all at one time to bring in the community,” Rohler said about hosting the open house and campaign kick off at the same time.

As for the annual fundraising campaign, the chairman this year is Kurt Eimiller of Slone Melhuish Insurance. Eimiller said the campaign goal for this year is $1.3 million, which will go toward investing in 26 community partners and 39 programs.

“If we all do what we are supposed to do, we will go through that campaign goal,” he said.

Eimiller said, as a youth football coach, he sees how important the programs the United Way funds to help children are in their lives.

“It is such a great vehicle to help those kids,” he said.

This is the first United Way fundraising campaign for for Eimiller and Rohler as United Way executive director. He said already they are both reaching out to new people and donors. This year’s campaign message is “United We Fight. United We Win.” The campaign video was also shown at the event, which included local people being helped by programs the United Way funds.
