Theta Beta Holds First Meeting Of New Year

The Theta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International held its first meeting of the new year at the home of Diane Brosius in Sherman.

Joan Wahl, a returning member, was welcomed back by the sorority members.

Mrs. Brosius presented the program for the evening meeting on the life of Audrey Hepburn. Hepburn is said to be the third greatest female screen legend, only surpassed be Katherine Hepburn and Bette Davis. Her movie career, her awards and her personal life was discussed. In 1987 she was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF. She said of her job, “My task is to inform, to create awareness of the needs of children … I am a mother and I will travel.”

Rose VanVolkenburg, chapter president, presided over the business meeting. She announced that the chapter had won the rating of three stars for its work with service needs in the community. A thank you note was read from Hailey Crosley, who was presented with the Judith Roberts sorority scholarship. Service projects were discussed, both past and future projects. The sorority has donated money for school back packs to CASA and to the students at Sherman Central.

Refreshments were served by co-hostesses Mary Rogers and Deanna Sands. The next meeting will be Sept. 20 at the home of Susan Hayes.
