Public Market Makes Plans For Comedy Center Grand Opening

The Jamestown Public Market continues into the dog days of summer with several exciting events, vendors and entertainers sponsored by Univera Healthcare.

On Saturday, in celebration of Lucy Fest weekend and the grand opening of the National Comedy Center, the market will feature an all-day comedy event. Jamestown’s stand-up comedians, Karate Sleepover, will be bringing fun to the market with family friendly jokes, improv games and trivia. Members MW Barrick, Paul Clemente, Dan Davis, Jim Drain, and Jeremy Little have produced over two-dozen comedy shows in the southern tier. The group looks forward to entertaining the area with clever, refreshing comedy in what is soon to be the comedic capital of the U.S. Also appearing will be Pittsburgh alt-comic Ian Insect, fresh off an opening act for Creed Bratton of “The Office” fame.

In addition to a day of laughs, market goers can also expect wine tastings from local winery 21 Brix, as well as snow cones and family friendly activities through Conduit Ministries “I am Loved” program.

On Aug. 11, the Jamestown Public Market is re-locating, one-day only, for a collaborative endeavor with the Whirlybird Music Festival, starting at 10 a.m. All current market vendors will be joining the festival, located along Second and Pine streets. Regular market activities and services, including the SPROUTS Club, EBT and Double Up Food Bucks will be available.

On Aug. 18 the public market will feature a community pig roast, courtesy of For Peate’s Sake Homestead and Becki’s Bakery. Community members can enjoy pork sandwiches, while supplies last. Local act Magic by Uri will also be in attendance.

Dunkirk food truck Siri Thai Food will be bringing their unique flare to the Aug. 25 market. Each Saturday will continue to feature a 10:30 a.m. story-time in partnership with the James Prendergast Library’s Summer Reading Challenge.

Community spotlights for the month of August sharing their services and programs at the market include The Chautauqua Center, Eat Smart NY and Chautauqua Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council (CASAC). Entertainers Charity Nuse, Jamestown Clown Gary Mooney, Bill Downe and Juli Bessey will also bring their talents to the market throughout the month.

Vendors include: Abers Acres, Hidden Valley Produce, Love Your Weeds, For Peate’s Sake Homestead, Becki’s Bakery, Photos by Nathan Meleen, Dawn Graham Designs, MakePeace/Live Well, Eden’s Herbs, Gardens of Eternity, the Biodome Project, Crafts by Elizabeth Gifford, and Scott’s Farm & Greenhouse.

The Jamestown Public Market is located along Cherry Street between Second and Third streets. Open Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the market accepts EBT payments, credit and debit cards, WIC, FMNP coupons, and participates in the Double Up Food Bucks program, sponsored by Field and Fork Network.
