Flag Holders Made For Veteran Graves

BEMUS POINT — The Bemus Point VFW Post 557 Auxiliary is working on a project to provide flag holders for veterans buried in the Bemus Point Cemetery, where 265 veterans’ graves are located.

The auxiliary’s goal is to complete fundraising by Memorial Day 2019.

The flag holders are being made by a local metal specialties business and cost $15 each. The holders are stainless steel and are engraved with the phrase, “U.S. Veteran.” Denny Harvey, a veteran working with the United Veterans Council of Jamestown’s flag holder project, places the holders and flags on veterans graves along with help from the Maple Grove High School baseball team before the Memorial Day holiday each year.

Send donations to the Bemus Point VFW 557 Auxiliary Flag Holder Fund, P.O. Box 358, Bemus Point, NY 14712. Donations can also be left at the VFW at any time with a designation for the flag holder fund.
