NASS To Conduct Potato Survey

Beginning in late July, the Northeastern Regional Field Office of the U.S. Agriculture Department’s National Agricultural Statistics Service will conduct the Fall Potato Grower Inquiry.

The survey specifically targets potato growers in order to improve coverage of planted and harvested acres. In addition, data collected will be used to set yield, utilization, prices and value of production in Maine, New York and other fall potato crop states throughout the nation.

NASS gathers the data for the survey online, by mail, phone and in-person interview.

“The cooperation of potato farmers is crucial to ensure that your state’s potato crop is accurately represented in national potato production statistics,” said King Whetstone, director of the USDA’s NASS Northeastern Regional Field Office. “NASS safeguards the privacy of all responses and publishes only state- and national-level data, ensuring that no individual operation or producer can be identified.”

NASS will compile and analyze the survey information and publish the results in the Sept. 13, 2018 Potatoes publication.
