Westfield Senior Citizens To Meet Thursday
WESTFIELD — The Westfield Senior Citizens will meet June 14 at the Lakewood YWCA. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own table service. The kitchen committee will be Joyce Wainwright, Eric Kriedler and Lolita Ramos. Erin Haumenstein, Patterson Library director, will speak at the June meeting.
The group met recently with Pat Sciarrino, president, reading a prayer before the dish-to-pass supper.
Sheriff Joe Gerace shared information on how to make yards and homes safer, scams, identity theft, Smart 911 for cell phones, security systems for houses and yards, and reporting suspicious activity.
The meeting was opened at 8 p.m. with 28 members, including four new members, with the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of “God Bless America.” Sciarrino shared a devotion with members after Shirley Kolpien told a couple of jokes. New members were introduced. Ron Van Ord gave information on bus trips and a clipboard was passed to members to sign up.
Delores Kaufman, sunshine chairman, reported birthdays for May: Al Wainwright, Betty Ward, Pat Sciarrino and John and Shirley Kolpien’s anniversary. She reported that Mamie Criscione, a longtime member, is now at the former Chautauqua Home.
The 50-50 giveaway was won by Al Wainwright. The door prize was won by Delores Kaufman. Pauline Emilson gave packets of zinnia seeds to members.
The auction of garden items of flowers, seeds and gloves was won by Ron Van Ord. $10 went to the treasury. Nancy Peters has offered to bring an item for the June meeting.
A closing was recited by Sciarrino and members recited the “Serenity Prayer.”
