Six Frewsburg Students Selected To Attend Boys’ State
FREWSBURG — The Samuel L. Derby American Legion Post 556 and Sons of the American Legion are sponsoring three Frewsburg Central School students to Boy’s State at the State University at Morrisville.
The six candidates are Austin Anderson, Caleb Barber, Ian Clark, Quinn Conlan, Ian Conner and Jacob Stelmack.
Austin Anderson is the son of Herbert Anderson and Michelle Pitts. Austin is a member of the varsity golf team and trap team. He is also active in the Quiz Bowl and Mock Trial teams. Outside of school, Austin is a member of the Sons of the American Legion and Carroll Rod and Gun Club. Austin plans to attend college to pursue a career in law.
Caleb Barber is the son of John and Heather Barber. He is a member of the varsity cross country, swimming and tennis teams. He also is a National Honor Society member and participates in Quiz Bowl and Pit Band for the school musical. Caleb is a student leader for the Trinity United Methodist Church youth group. He plans to attend Grove City College and major in science.
Ian Clark is the son of John and Julie Clark. He is a member of the varsity cross country, wrestling and track teams. Ian is a member of National Technical Honor Society through his criminal justice program at Hewes Educational Center. He is in concert band, marching band and in the Pit Band during school musicals. Ian also participates in the Explorers Post 124 and is a member of the Mock Trial team. Ian will attend college to major in criminal justice and then enter the Marine Corp.
Quinn Conlan is the son of Mike and A’lynn Conlan. Quinn is a member of the varsity basketball team and captain of the track team. He is in student council, plays AAU basketball, is a member of the Time Machine Track Club and volunteers for The Relief Zone fundraising events. Quinn will apply to West Point and plans to major in computer science.
Ian Conner is the son of Dave and Nancy Conner. Ian is a member of the varsity wrestling and track teams. He participates on the Quiz Bowl Team and plans to attend Jamestown Business College where he will major in business administration.
Jacob Stelmack is the son of Joseph Stelmack and Gene and Melissa O’Conner. Jacob is a member of the varsity soccer and track teams. He is also a class officer and participates in the Frewsburg Trap Club. Jacob’s career goal is to enter the military academy and become a pilot.
Boy’s State of New York is a program sponsored by the American Legion. Candidates who attend Boy’s State must be above average students and must prove good citizenship and leadership skills. The objective of Boy’s State is to develop civic leadership and promote American Citizenship. Attendees learn a detailed study of government and its functions.
