County Democrats Seek Candidates For 2018 Elections

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua County Democratic Chair Norman P. Green announces that the county party is looking for a few good candidates to take on Republican incumbents in the Nov. 6 General Election.

“At the forefront of our candidate search is the statehouse,” said Green. “We are looking for opponents to take on Cathy Young in the State Senate and Andy Goodell in the Assembly. While Cathy is doing a good job representing her district in the State Senate, every office holder should be opposed in a healthy democracy. We are looking for that one candidate who has something to say and wants to talk about the issues and the climate of Albany.

“As for Goodell,” continued Green, “He has failed to deliver tangible results for our district. There is a lot for any candidate to challenge Goodell about. Cathy Young deserves an Albany partner who delivers for the constituents like she does. That being said, I am sure that Cathy will endorse Andy’s re-election. He’s a Republican and she’s a Republican and that’s politics as usual. I am just being honest in my assessment about Goodell’s return delivery of the taxes we pay to the state. We are in conversation with several candidates wanting to run against Goodell, but welcome all who want to be interviewed.

“For Congress, we have seven great candidates wanting to take on Tom Reed. However, the Chautauqua County Democratic Committee has chosen Eddie Sundquist of Jamestown as our choice in the June 26th Democratic Primary,” said Green.

Green added that the Democrats are also seeking candidates for Busti Town Justice, Pomfret Town Justice, Pomfret Town Highway Superintendent – Vacancy, Portland Town Justice, Sherman Town Justice, Villenova Town Justice, two Bemus Point Village Trustees, two Celoron Village Trustees, a Mayville Village Trustee and two Silver Creek Village Trustees.

The list of the 12 party incumbents who have expiring terms this year include New York State Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, Lieutenant Governor Kathy C Hochul, State Attorney General Eric T Schneiderman, State Comptroller Thomas P Dinapoli, US Senator Kirsten E Gillibrand, State Supreme Court Justice Paula L Feroleto, County Sheriff Joseph A Gerace, Mayville Village Mayor Martin Bova Jr Mayville Village Trustee Henry T Jacobson, Panama Village Mayor William F Schneider, Panama Village Trustee Jonathan G Weston and Westfield Village Trustee Michael A Catalano.
