E-ZPass Offering Deal For Buyers Until Feb. 26
Chautauqua County Clerk Larry Barmore is letting travelers know about an incentive to purchase an E-ZPass that will put a little bit of money back in their pockets.
In preparation for the cashless tolling system being implemented on the state Thruway, E-ZPass On-The-Go is offering a $10 credit to any customer who registers a new E-ZPass to a new account between Feb. 1 and Feb. 26 and takes 10 trips on the Thruway in six months. E-ZPasses are sold in each of the three Chautauqua County DMV offices.
“Customers can come into any one of our three DMV offices, pay $25 and get an E-ZPass with $25 in toll credit loaded onto their pass as soon as it’s registered,” Barmore said. “For most of the month of February, customers who get a new E-ZPass and register it to a new account will get an additional $10 in toll credit once they’ve made 10 trips in 6 months. For many Chautauqua County residents, that’s one trip a month to Buffalo, Erie, or across the northern part of the county.”
The cashless tolling system was announced by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in his State of the State and Budget messages with the plan being implemented over the next two years. Construction is already underway to convert the Grand Island Bridge to a cashless toll by March.
“Since the plan is to make the entire New York State Thruway a cashless toll road, E-ZPasses will be the best way to pay tolls,” Barmore said. “Since New York state is giving travelers $10 in credit back just for getting an E-ZPass during February, there’s no better time than the present to stop at the DMV to get one.”
Barmore said every DMV office in Chautauqua County will be stocked with additional E-ZPasses during this promotion. The county retains a portion of every E-ZPass sold in the DMV office.
