The Reg Lenna Center for The Arts will present the audience participation movie event “Sing A-Long-A Grease” on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The event features a screening of the 1978 movie musical “Grease” along with lyrics presented onscreen, a costume contest and more. Jamestown-area actor Adam Owens will serve as host for the evening. Reserved seating tickets start at $6 for students aged 18 and under and $12 for adults.

Audience members are encouraged to come to “Sing A-Long-A Grease” dressed as their favorite characters from the film, including T-Birds, Pink Ladies and other students and staff from Rydell High School. Before the movie, host Adam Owens, director of the Lucille Ball Little Theater’s “Little Shop of Horrors” and the man behind Edna Turnblad in Jamestown Community College’s “Hairspray” will guide ticket holders through the contents of a complimentary Fun Pack, lead them through several dance moves and shout-outs to be used during the screening and host a costume contest.

“Based on our success with ‘Sing Along With The Muppet Movie’ and our showings of ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show,’ it was a no-brainer choosing to show what is arguably the most popular movie-musical of the last 40 years,” said Len Barry, Reg Lenna Center for the Arts marketing director. “We’re honored to have Adam Owens leading the festivities and to continue his fall streak of 50’s and 60’s inspired entertainment.”

“Grease” — starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John — is based on the 1971 Broadway musical of the same name. The story revolves around two high school seniors in 1959 who rekindle a summer romance despite challenges from their friends, teachers and out of school rivals. The soundtrack was a hit on radio with songs such as “You’re the One That I Want,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “Grease” all charting at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. “Sing A-Long-A Grease” will have a pre-show orientation and costume contest with Adam Owens beginning at 6:30 p.m. and an intermission in the middle of the movie.

Tickets to “Sing A-Long-A Grease” are reserved seating. Audiences are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of the event. Tickets may be purchased by calling 484-7070, by visiting reglenna.com and at the temporarily relocated box office at 215 Spring St. from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday. The main box office at 116 E. Third St. will open at 6 p.m. Saturday before the scheduled 7 p.m. event starting time.

Sing A-Long-A Grease is sponsored by Comfort Inn of Jamestown, M&T Bank and New York State Council on the Arts.
