First Christmas In The Park Set For Saturday
RED HOUSE — Allegany State Park will host its inaugural Christmas in the Park on Saturday, Dec. 2.
The event begins at 1 p.m. in the Red House Administration building as the group decorates the big tree in the lobby. There will also be holiday crafts for children. From 2 to 4 p.m., those attending can go to the Red House Picnic Area shelter where Santa, on a short break from his duties at the North Pole, will greet children and hear what they want for Christmas. While waiting to see Santa, folks are invited to make a pine cone bird feeder to hang on the park’s outdoor Christmas tree. The natural decorations will make winter survival a little easier for birds in the park. From 2 to 4 p.m. there will be games such as Snowman Snowball Toss, a nature scavenger hunt, holiday Tic-Tac-Toe and Kan Jam. The tree will be lit in the Administration Building at 4:30 p.m. The event ends with a children’s story read by the fireside at 4:45 p.m.
The Friends of Allegany State Park and the Allegany State Park Historical Society will be on hand to introduce folks to their organizations. Light refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Friends of Allegany State Park. Those attending are also invited to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the local food pantry.
